We have made the decision to cancel thirteen school days this winter based upon the safety and welfare of our children. We, however, still feel strongly about making efforts to capture the lost instructional time.
Tuesday, February 18, 2014 is the thirteenth calamity day used by Tiffin City Schools for the 2013-14 school year. Law permits us five calamity days without make-up and any days beyond five require a plan for making up the days. The make-up days approved by the Board of Education are June 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10. We approved February 14 and 17, 2014 as make-up days to enable us to have more instructional time with our students before state assessments. At this point, students have made-up two calamity days by attending classes on February 14 and 17.
With that said, Tiffin City School students will have to make-up 6 calamity days. There have been Bills introduced by both the House and Senate to alleviate some of the concerns associated with make-up days. We will keep you informed of any legislation associated with make-up days that become law.
Thank you for your concern and support. We have a wonderful community that has been patient during these trying times.
